Sunday, Aug. 24th Border Battle Pits WORS vs. MNSCS – Bragging Rights and Traveling Trophy to the Winner

Gary explains how the race will be scored

WORS and MNSCS racers first mixed it up back in 2005, but now the Border Battle has resumed for 2008. Hosted by The Route Bike Shops and the Kinnickinnic Off-Road Cyclists, the Border Battle will take place Sunday, August 24th on the White Tail Ridge mountain bike trails near River Falls, WI.

This will be a full weekend of events - racers can swap out their knobbies (or not) for slick tires for Saturday’s Fat Tire Crit. This Crit promises to provide a great warm up for Sunday’s cross-country race with hot laps on industrial park roads. With onsite camping, a great new trail network, a Learn to Race Clinic, Fat Tire Crit, and the whole thing taking place less than an hour from the Twin Cities, the Border Battle is a mountain biker dream weekend.

Racers can expect to ride flowing, fast hardpack single track, roots and rocks, short, steep downhill and uphill switchbacks, technical climbs, grassy, wide-open field sections and a generous amount of flowing double track.

Timing and scoring with be provided by the WORS timing/scoring team.  A person’s points will be put into either or both series based on their series registration.   MNSCS points for ALL riders will be recalculated for the event based off the classes and age groups outlined in the MNSCS guidelines.

The Border Battle Traveling Trophy will be awarded on the basis of head-to-head competition in each class that there is both a Minnesota and Wisconsin rider.
There will be a "winner" and a "loser". The winner will be the racer that finishes before the other. The "winner" will be awarded 1 point and the "loser" 0 points. An age class that does not have a participant from both states will not be counted All the points will be tallied and the state winner will be the one with the highest number of points. Given the difference in the number of racers in each Series, we think this is the fairest approach.
